The Kingston upon Thames Association for the Blind was established over thirty years ago and works closely with the Local Authority and local groups, such as the Surbiton ,New Malden and Social Eyes Blind Clubs and the Eye Contact Club to promote the interests of blind and partially sighted people who live in the borough.
Membership is free, and is open to any visually impaired person living within the borough and anyone concerned with their interests.
Funding is received from the Greater London Fund for the Blind. The Association is able to make grants available to visually impaired people who live in the borough for a wide variety of purposes, ranging from the purchase of special equipment to help with the cost of holidays.
The Association also supports a weekly Talking Newspaper, which has over one hundred and fifty listeners and an Eye Buddy Scheme which matches trained volunteers to blind and partially sighted people living in the borough. Volunteers visit their clients on a weekly basis to help with many tasks including reading of mail, letter writing, maybe just to chat and have a cup of tea. KAB also has a Tandem scheme and always needs additional volunteers to be involved with one off trips and outings and also to take part in our group residential home visits
More information about the Association may be obtained from the KAB Office on 020 8605 0060.
The office is manned Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 12.00 and messages can be left outside these hours if it is unmanned.
The address of the K.A.B office is Adams House, Dickerage Lane, New Malden KT3 3SF
